FEATURE STUDENT
Jessica Knighton, Boyd Anderson High
Jessica Knighton, a SHAPE student at Boyd Anderson High, is a shining example of what our youth today often represents, yet sometimes goes unnoticed. She is full of energy, and life and doesn’t turn down an opportunity to become involved, or help others. She has taken her role as the SHAPE chairperson by storm and had accomplished all of her goals for this year, and then some! Jessica has served her school and her community as a leader in many ways, from her position as president of student government, yearbook editor, and chairperson for both Ladies of Distinction and SHAPE! Jessica also made her mark this past November when she attended a Lauderdale Lakes City Commission meeting where she single handedly raised $22,000 for her school simply by asking! A local business leader who also attended the meeting was so impressed at what she observed, she offered Jessica a 4 year college scholarship on the spot! Jessica also volunteers as a Jr. League cheerleading coach and at a local day care center whenever she has the time. What stands out the most is her caring heart. In her own words, “I have many passions, but at the top of my list is the impact of a giving heart. SHAPE has made that a realistic goal for me. Having participated in the SHAPE program I've learned the true meaning of giving. My goal is to help shape the next generations of leaders, help develop their potential to succeed, and teach them to identify and build character within themselves so that they can help change the problems of their generation.” Kudos to Jessica, a shining example to all! |
